Self Esteem

It’s never too late to dream!

As Vonda served lunch to Rhonda and her family she asked “what do you do for a living?”  Rhonda told her that she was an instructor to help women earn their GED (General Equivalency Diploma).  Vonda had dropped out of high school and had thought many times about earning her GED.  She found it more difficult to encourage  her children to be diligent with their education when she had failed to do the same.

Rhonda encouraged her to come to the Joshua Resource Center………….Vonda thought it was too late in her life to do that and declined………….

It’s never too late to dream!

Vonda is a single Mom with two teenage children.  She has been a waitress at the local TGI Friday for years.  While serving lunch to a woman she had waited on for a couple of years – she learned something that was about to change her life forever.  to be cont’d.

Employment Help

We are happy to say that JRC was able to help 11 women in 2010 and 20 women in 2009 gain employment.  Wow!  In this difficult economy that is amazing.  There is no charge for the “New Beginnings” program for women who qualify.  Call 380-5370 in Maryville and 314-1245 in Knoxville for more information.  Now enrolling for new classes.

March 31- Becoming Healthy and Motivated

Did you know that a healthy body means a healthy mind? Our speaker today emphasized the importance of taking care of your health.

Sometimes we ladies are so busy taking care of everyone and everything on this planet, that we forget to take care of the one very important person-us.   Many of us have been taught to be the nurturers and the responsible ones. That is all fine, but the strange thing is, while we are balancing the family and making sure they are all healthy and happy, we can become off balanced and jeopardize our health.

Imagine now you’re in an abusive situation and told that you are not worth anything. Why would you want to take care of yourself when it just seems pointless? Or, you live in such chaos that it is a matter of daily survival and your overall  health is not the top priority.

As the weeks have progressed, we are seeing that the ladies are feeling that they are worthy and therefore they want to take care of themselves.

That is the great thing about JRC; if the ladies stick with it, the rewards are a freedom to live a happier and healthier life for themselves and their families.

Amazing Class Healed Without Scars Class at Joshua Resource Center

Bredna, one of our previous graduates, came by today to let us know just how much her life has changed and how well she is now. When I asked her what she gained the most by attending JRC, she said, “I got my self-esteem back through the Healed Without Scars class and the Boundaries class, and my faith in God grew. I’ll always remember what I learned and I use it everyday. I was accepted here. I fit in here. ”

Brenda has enrolled in Pellissippi and wants to become a RN. She has a new home and she is radiant.

Again, thank you for your faithfulness in helping our women. Kathy Kagley
