When she was introduced by a friend to JRC, she was depressed and not sure of where to turn for help. Sue had earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, owned her own home and was working. However, the pain and sense of worthlessness that started as a child had continued through her marriage to an alcoholic man. He had left her and their son. She was feeling very confused, isolated and depressed. JRC helped her understand her value and worth through her spiritual relationship with Christ. Almost two years later, She is now thriving with better self-confidence and a network of support through the Center.

She left a 13 year marriage that was very abusive. Being a mother of one handicapped adult daughter, they both lived through horrible circumstances during her marriage. However, one morning in Jan. 2005, she picked up a paper and called JRC. She was ready to learn how to get out of that relationship and begin a better life for herself and her daughter. She now speaks to the public about domestic violence and stresses the importance of women getting out of abusive relationships.
Julie Vanover has traveled a hard, rocky road over the past several years. The journey has been painful, left lasting scars. But now, with the help of Joshua Resource Center and others who believe in her, Vanover is changing her life.
Charlotte Tilson is a volunteer with JRC. She was assigned to be Vanover’s mentor, but they have now become close friends.
“We’ve come a long way — from her getting out of jail, to being homeless, to now having an apartment and a job,” Tilson said of Vanover.
When the two women first met, Vanover had just gotten out of jail. Tilson said, “I wondered what in the world I could do to help her. That was last September. (read the entire story Here)
